Religion...!

Religion... Purpose... Myth... History... what does it bring to your mind... The other day I had a discussion with a friend of mine... He says that they have found traces of Dwarka which used to be the kingdom of Krishna.... then he quoted that there evidence that proves that there really exists a bridge between India and Sri Lanka that Rama had built with bare hands. This raised a question in his head... Is all the mythology that we read and hear a reality...? Did the gods actually Incarnate on earth in the forms of Rama Krishna and Parshurama... And then we went into a long discussion of all the different ways that we can prove that all this was a reality...

I am a person who doesn't believe in god... I am not exactly an atheist, but you can probably call me a polite atheist... I don't deny the existence of god but I don't believe in one either... But I do believe in religion... That's funny you would say... Let me explain… Religion I think was created by man… and for man… so what the religion tells us is very scientific… they were trying to tell us something… every religion tries to teach us how we can live our lives in a much better way…

People were ignorant then and it was probably necessary to tell them things in a way that can easily understand… so the wise men told them stories… now these stories could be real… they could be imaginary… there might be a man who crossed the ocean to save his wife… or there might be a big family feud in Kurukshetra… who knows… but if you actually read the Mahabharata, it is a beautiful creation… it is called a mahakavya… meaning the great poetry…

When I talk about religion I don’t mean only Hinduism… I mean all religions… and these religions are basically trying to tell us something… and instead of trying to understand what they are telling us we get into the truth of the story and silly things like breaking a mosque and building a temple… are we being Maryada purshottam Ram or following the quran when we fight over such things…?

Root cause of all evil

I was thinking this morning that the root cause of all evil is deprivation. deprivation causes a person to go crazy for material things.

Deprivation makes a man think that what he has today, he might not have tomorrow. So he hoardes. This gives birth to Greed.

Greed makes a man take things that don't really belong to him (ethically speaking of course...!) which causes imbalance of resources. Which drives me to thinking that it is not limited resources that are causing problems to the people of this planet. I think nature has given enough resources for all the living organisms to survive comfortably in peace. It is just that there is a great imbalance of resources.

But then that is the law of nature. Survival of the fittest. The stronger, smarter, faster man hordes resources that could have been rightfully be consumed by a needy, who dies of starvation and deprivation.

I am not really discussing capitalism and socialism here. But perhaps if we utilize our resources in a more balanced way, we would be able to live in abundance.

But then if abundance is the right way of living life, then the question is why did nature (since I don't believe in God much...!) create deprivation. My assumption here is, Nature creates things in the most suitable manner.

I am not trying to imply that nature is an intelligent being that tries to scheme things (like god...!). What i am trying to say here is it is there because it was at its best. if it was anything less than the best, it would have gone extinct. Survival of the fittest remember...! Girraffes have long necks and elephants have tusks and trunks... because they help them survive... Every living organism on this planet that didn't not evolve died out...

So Abundance probably isn't good. Perhaps if we had abundance, we would die out of laziness and inactivity. It is deprivation that keeps everyone on the toes. It might not be good for a few individuals, but it is good for the entire race. Race here meaning all living organisms in the entire known universe.

Known universe because who knows there might be a universe or dimension beyond our realm that actually thrives on abundance...!!
